Bermuda, tiny island that it is, is packed with visual delights. Bermuda is a land of color: eye-catching, pastel-painted structures, pink sand beaches, stunning ocean views, historic sites and so much more. Bermuda is actually smaller than the average American city, but it will take you more time to discover all it has to offer than would be available to the average visitor. That being so, the Sightseeing in Bermuda section on my website is a great place to begin planning your visit. Sightseeing in Bermuda.

Many of the larger shops and stores cater to the handicapped traveler, but smaller ones do not. Pink and Blue public buses are not equipped to handle wheelchairs, but the ferries can handle them quite easily. The Bermuda Physically Handicapped Association does, however, have a bus with a hydraulic lift. It’s operated by volunteers, and you can make arrangements in advance.

Renting a car in Bermuda is not an option; there is no such service. That being so, getting around Bermuda takes a bit of thought and pre-planning. If you’re over the age of 16, you can rent a moped or a bicycle; a driver’s license is not required. The only difficulty, depending on what part of the world you live in, is riding on the left side of the road. Bicycles and mopeds are cheap to rent, convenient, easy to park, and no destination is too far away. You’ll find bikes to rent at most hotels and at all of the cycle shops. Touring the island by bicycle allows you to really absorb the beauty that surrounds you. The Royal Naval Dockyard at the West End of the island is less than two hours from the city of Hamilton by bicycle. If the ride back is more than you can handle, you can return by ferry. The daily rate for a bicycle ranges from $20 to $35; for a moped it’s $40 to $50 per day, and it’s less expensive if you rent by the week. If you’d like to know more, please read my article, Getting Around Bermuda.

Scuba diving in Bermuda is, in my opinion, the best anywhere in the world, but if dive you already know that, right? If you’re planning a scuba trio to Bermuda, you’ll need to book a dive operator. There are some half-dozen professional dive operators in Bermuda; all of them can be relied upon to offer a variety of services in an efficient, safe and professional manner. Many of the large hotels have their own watersports facilities and rental equipment for use by guests of other hotels. They will be pleased to arrange diving excursions with one or another of the Bermuda Dive Operators. There is a decompression chamber at the King Edward Memorial Hospital on Point Finger Road in Paget.
Golf in Bermuda means lush, green ocean-side fairways, tiny, elevated greens, often guarded by sand traps craftily placed by master golf courses architects such as Robert Trent Jones to punish even the slightest wayward shot. Bermuda’s golf courses are all visually delightful: greens, tee and fairways provide spectacular views of the ocean, rocky shorelines, and pristine pink, sandy beaches. Irrigation on these often spectacular courses is limited, which means that the greens and fairways are always firmer and faster than those found elsewhere around the world. Finally, as you may well imagine, water plays a huge part in the layout of almost all of Bermuda’s golf courses. Windswept cliff tops, steep ocean drop-offs, and breathtaking views are the highlights of play everywhere.

Playing golf in Bermuda is always a pleasure. You don’t have to rise before dawn and stand in line to get a tee-time; and rarely will you have long to wait on any tee. You can play the game at your own pace; other players on the course do not try to rush you from behind. You’ll have all the time in the world to contemplate that 40-foot put. And there are no distractions, save for that stunning ocean view and the occasional song of an exotic bird. Here are links to Bermuda’s golf courses:
