The area code for Bermuda is 441; the official website for the Bermuda Telephone Company is www.btc.bm.
Public telephones are strategically placed around the
islands, and pre-paid calling cards can be purchased almost
anywhere, even at dispensing machines. Local calls cost
20¢; just deposit two 10¢ coins and dial. If you don’t have the
necessary change, you can deposit a quarter, but the pay
phones do not give change. Telco 441-295-1001) has its
office at 30 Victoria Street and you can purchase pre-paid
calling cards there, or at any one of a number outlying
branches.
Bermuda also has an independent long-distance carrier, TeleBurmuda International (TBI), whose rates are generally
cheaper than those of Telco. And a neat thing about TBI
cards is that if you’re from the US, Canada or the UK, you
can use them when you get home. They can be pre-purchased
in $10, $25 and $50 denominations, or from TBI’s
Customer Care Centre at 30 Victoria Street, Hamilton, 441-295-1001.
