John Smith’s Bay Park and Beach (South Road) This is yet another South Shore local favorite, so it can get
extremely busy, especially
on weekends. It has acres of
wide, sandy shore, clear
shallow waters that make it
safe for small children and,
offshore, deeper waters and
a reef that makes it a
snorkeler’s dream. Hundreds
of colorful reef fish
such as sergeant majors,
parrotfish, jacks, blue and
yellow grunts, angels, butterfly
fish and wrasse casually
swim by.
At times, you’ll see warning flags at the beachlifeguard station indicating that waterconditions may be dangerous. Check with a lifeguard (onduty during summer) before venturing into deepwaters.
The park offers public toilets/restrooms, but there are no other conveniences close by. During the summer a mobile concession stand visits the park to sell soft drinks, coffee, tea and sandwiches (they’re good!).
