The Taunton - Shipwreck Diving Bermuda

The Taunton was a Norwegian, steam-driven freighter built in Copenhagen in 1902. She was some 230 feet long, 33 feet across the beam, and displaced more than 1,300 tons. She was bound from Norfolk, Virginia to St. George on November 24th, 1920, with a cargo of coal, when she slammed into the reef eight miles north of St. Catherine’s Point.

What’s left of Taunton lies close to the surface and several other wrecks, including Eagle, in 20 feet of water. Although the ship is fairly well broken up and scattered across the reef, her engine and boilers offer spectacular backdrops for underwater photography, and the site is great fun to explore.
