The King was a diesel-powered Navy tugboat built in 1941. Toward the end of her days, she was converted into a treasure salvage boat and then into a dive boat owned by Gary Lamb. Lamb donated the old boat as a potential dive site. In 1984, she was sunk a half-mile off the South Shore by South Side Scuba, where she lies intact in 65 feet of water.
The wreck offers divers all sorts of exciting underwater opportunities. The pilot house and galley, now home to colorful marine life, are easily accessible, and there are lots of sights for underwater photographers.
