The Caraquet was an English mail packet built at the Harland & Wolfe shipyard in Belfast, Ireland, in 1894.

On June 25th, 1923, while on the way from St. John to Halifax, rough seas, fog and abnormally strong currents pushed her off course and she ended up on the rocks 10 miles north of Hamilton. All of her crew and passengers made it safely off the ship before she sank in 45 feet of water, where she lies today. The massive wreck, scattered over a wide area, is a great dive. Enormous boilers, a great anchor, winches, capstans, achinery, plates, beams and all sorts of other bits and pieces provide a mighty backdrop for underwater photographers and great for underwater explorers.
