Frog and Onion Restaurant & Pub - Bermuda

The Frog and Onion Restaurant has long been one of my favorite places to eat when in Bermuda. A British-style pub set inside what once was the barrel-making factory for the British Royal Navy, it really does have a little of the old-English atmosphere that’s so hard to find now, even in the country pubs of the UK. The specialty is English beer, expensive at more than $4.75 a pint, but the real thing: Newcastle Brown, Watney’s, Flower’s, all on draft, along with that good old Irish mainstay, Guinness. I love Guinness and was surprised to find that this was one of the few establishments in Bermuda that bothers to stock it. I read a book once whose hero claimed he had only three reasons for living: the fear of death, Goldie Hawn (no, it’s not Kurt Russell), and Guinness. I know what he means. The food at the Frog and Onion is your basic pub fare: pies, fish and chips and a variety of sandwiches. For dessert, you might like to try their English trifle.

The Frog and Onion is open daily for lunch and dinner until midnight. Reservations not required. Take number 7 or 8 bus from Hamilton, or the ferry from all points around the Great Sound.
