Packing for a vacation in Bermuda is a lot like packing for any other sunny destination, Here's what you'll need to pack:
1. Put your travel documents in order and place them in secure but accessible place. You'll need your valid passport, driver's license, airline tickets and/or boarding passes. I keep mine in the side pocket of my carry-on bag. Don't forget, medications must be carried in their original containers - it's also a good idea to take along copies of your current prescriptions.
2. Your carry-on bag is the place to pack your toiletries, a change of clothing and your bathing suit. Then, in the event of an unexpected delay of your luggage, you won't be caught short, well not so much.
3. You'll need a full-sized suitcase - one with wheels is best.
4. Roll your outer clothes (shirts, dresses, pants, etc.) in plastic - this will help to stop them getting wrinkled and will save space. Don't forget to pack the basics: socks and underwear. For evening you'll need a light sweater or jacket - some of the high-end resorts in Bermuda also require jacket and tie at dinner.
5. Women should note that island dress requirements are not the same as they are in the U.S. or U.K. No bikini tops and skimpy shorts on city streets. Take a nice dress for evening wear.
6. Guys. you should pack some collared golf shirts. You can wear them anywhere day or night, even under a light suit jacket for a fancy dinner. If you intend to play golf, shorts must be of Bermuda length, cut just above the knee, and shirts must have collars. No jeans, gym shorts or cut-offs are allowed.
7. For the beach, pack at least two swimsuits, UV-rated sunglasses, waterproof sunscreen (SPF 30 minimum), a brimmed hat big enough to protect your head, face, neck and ears from the sun, and ladies you'll need a wrap of some sort (remember, No bikini tops and skimpy shorts on city streets).
8. Toiletries: Besides the usual toothbrushes, razors, deoderant, and feminine items, don't forget to pack lip balm.
9. Pack a pair of tennis shoes, some flip-flops or sandals, and at least one pair of dressy shoes for evenings. Men who play golf will, of course need golf shoes (they are expensive to rent in Bermuda).
10. Don't forget to pack a camera and bring plenty of film and/or digital media from home; these can be expensive in Bermuda.
Three Tips to Make Life easy:
1. Leave the things at home you know the hotel will provide: soap, shampoo, and hair dryers, and usually towels for room and pool/beach.
2. Bring a small backpack or cloth bag along to throw your stuff in when you head to the beach or off on an excursion.
3. Pack light. The less you pack, the less you have to carry. Most of the clothes you'll need in Bermuda should be lightweight; most can be worn more than once.
